Sharing our passion for Norway: About us

The story behind Norway Adventures - Life changing experiences with a local perspective

One thing that really sets Norway Adventures apart is that we’re a small, family company, firmly rooted here in the western fjords of Norway. Rogier fell in love with the Norwegian wilderness as a young boy. 23 years ago he and Anne moved here, determined to share those enduring experiences in nature with their young children. Rogier founded Norway Adventures in 2004, an adventure travel tour operator in Norway, with a mission to share “the humbling enormity of the fjord landscape” with the world. Taking you on authentic experiences off the beaten track.

Your local travel agent in Norway for active outdoor experiences

We design customized tours especially for active guests who are ready to dive in and experience nature and culture in Norway. As Rogier says, “At Norway Adventures, it’s not about seeing Norway, it’s about doing it – fully experiencing all the natural wonders of the mountains and fjords.”

For 20 years we have been guiding guests to the most beautiful places in Norway, that’s in our blood.

Tour operator in Norway for sustainable travel

Going on adventures is a part of our life here in the fjords, making connections with local providers, not sitting in an office in Oslo. As part of our sustainability mission, we design tours that take you off the beaten track, reducing the environmental impact on the most popular sites, and relying on low-emissions transportation as much as possible – scenic railways, communal ferries, and of course, hiking, skiing, and kayak tours under our own power.

Insider tips from your Norwegian travel agent

Rather than sending guests to the sites that are mobbed with tourists, only to wait in line for a photo, we’ll give you our best insider tips, from seafood dinners at restaurants reachable only by boat, to secret glaciers that only the locals visit, to the best waterfall swimming holes.  As a Norway specialist travel agent we create personalized travel guides for each tour with all the details and logistics worked out ahead of time, and with recommendations tailored to your group’s capabilities and special requests. As Anne says,By really getting to know our guests, we can find those activities and special touches that will be the perfect match for them. That’s why Norway Adventures will never be a big factory of a Norway travel company, because the joy for us is that we can make a tour that fits each guest, and really offer that personal touch.”

I was 11 when I first came to Norway, and the experience changed my life. It was just a simple cabin by a lake, but it was paradise for a young boy. Every morning I’d sprint outside and jump into the lake for my morning bath before breakfast, and at night we’d catch trout in the lake. I got to stay up into the early hours of the morning because that’s when the fish bite best. When I had young children of my own, I wanted to bring them here, to give them the same deep, enduring experiences in nature. With my background in civil engineering and an MBA, I found a job in the fjords of Norway in 2000. In 2004 I decided to turn my passion into my career by founding Norway Adventures, an adventure travel tour operator and guiding company in Norway. Now it’s my job, and my great joy, to create transformational experiences in nature for our guests.

Our journeys through the Norwegian wilderness can be a real chance to detox from city life, a chance to recharge and reconnect with what’s most important. When we take guests kayaking, it’s not actually about the kayaking, but it’s simply the best way to experience the fjord in complete silence, feeling the immense mountains rise all around you. We find campsites in the wilderness on the side of the fjords, fish for our dinner, find our firewood in the woods (even if it’s absolutely pouring we can always show guests how to find dry wood) and cook our dinner over the fire. I can’t tell you how many times our guests have been sitting around the fire and have started to ask themselves those major existential questions: Is this really what I want to be doing with my life? Is there a way to slow down and take more time to connect with myself, with my family, with nature?

Nowadays, in between guiding, I help to design the perfect adventure vacations for our guests and train our newer guides, while also tending to the sheep at our family farm. I am looking forward to meeting you on your adventure in Norway!

In 2000 when we took the big step to move to Norway, I immediately felt at home here. I’m so grateful for the untouched nature, fresh air, and the safe environment for children to grow up in. Our farm looks out over the fjord, and our children spent their childhoods running out the back door to scramble up our mountain. We have always taken our children Stijn, Ive and Lotte on adventures, and now we join them on multi-day expeditions, trying out many of the skiing, hiking, and kayaking routes we recommend to our guests.

I remember one canoe trip we took in Femundsmarka National Park when Lotte, our youngest, was only four. We camped one night on an island, and in the morning the wind was so strong that we weren’t strong enough to paddle back to the shore. We just went back to the island and set up camp again, eating noodles and playing cards. The trip could have been such a flop, but now it’s such a cherished memory for our family, an adventure that brought us together. At Norway Adventures, as a local tour operator and travel agent in Norway, we want to help guests unplug and step away from the hectic pace of life. And even if big winds come and we really struggle, at the end of the day when we make it to our destination, everyone can feel profound pride in that achievement.

With a background in hotel and event management and marketing, I joined Norway Adventures in 2016 to help design adventure vacations. We always like to have a nice chat before we customize a tour for our guests. Maybe a group has some members who are really looking for a challenge, and some who are looking for a gentler retreat. If a family has young kids, we think about the activities that our kids loved when they were that age. Rogier is the adrenaline junkie in our family – I’m not a thrill seeker. Still, I get out there and explore new areas and try new adventures every year, so that when a guest is a little wary of a zipline or a certain hike, I can say, “I’m 52, and I’m not a daredevil, but I can tell you, this was fun.”

We look forward to designing the perfect trip for you. Velkommen til Norge!

I was 11 when I first travelled through Norway with my parents, and that trip was the beginning of my love for this country. I still remember the endless mountains, blue fjords and the sense of freedom I felt – it made a lasting impression on me. Since then, being outdoors has always been my happy place. Whether it’s climbing, hiking, or cycling – as long as I’m outside, I feel at home.

In 2025, my family and I got the chance to move to Norway with our three young children. Now they can grow up surrounded by nature, with plenty of space to run, explore, and get muddy along the way. We hope to pass on to them the same joy of outdoor life that we still experience every day.

Having always worked in tourism, I’m excited to combine my professional background with my passion for travel and nature here at Norway Adventures. I love discovering new adventures and can’t wait to inspire our guests to experience their own unforgettable moments in Norway.

In 2012, I moved with my family from the Netherlands to Norway. Why Norway? Norway has it all for us. Beautiful nature, fresh air, fjords, waterfalls, wildlife and much more. I love to travel and to design my own trips, working at Norway Adventures makes it possible to combine work with something I love to do. Together with my good colleagues, I work to ensure that you will have a good overall experience, from the moment you meet us, book the trip you like, until the end of your trip, and then you can look back on a unique tour in beautiful Norway.

A few years ago, my family traveled to Norway for the Easter break, and it was love at first sight. Coming from the busy city of Budapest, we just couldn’t stop thinking about the nature that surrounded us here. Not long after this trip, we were on the plane toward Ålesund, but this time we did not have return tickets.

Since then, we have been doing what we love most: exploring this amazing country with our children, whether on four wheels, two wheels, by boat, or on skis.

With my background in tourism, I am excited to be a part of the Norway Adventures team and inspire others to come and see this varied and magnificent scenery with their own eyes.

I spent my childhood summers on a tiny island in the Norwegian fjords known locally as “Kystens Perle” — the Pearl of the Coast. With fewer than 200 residents, fishing boats in the harbor and the sea and mountains shaping everyday life, it was here that my love for Norway’s nature and culture first began.

Those summers became some of my most treasured memories, and in 2017, I permanently moved to Norway . I’m new to the tourism industry, bringing a background in operations from healthcare, and I’m excited to combine my professional skills with my passion for Norway’s culture and landscapes. I was born in Norway but grew up in England, and today I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my young children and sharing the authentic Norway I grew up loving.

Lori and her mother
If you are planning a trip to Norway, you really can’t go wrong with Norway Adventures.

I used Norway Aventures to design a personalized tour of about three weeks. I was traveling with my mother, who is in her 80s. From the initial video call (such a great way to connect) to the final day in Alesund, everything was perfectly planned.

I don’t often write reviews, but when I do, it’s because the experience was outstanding. We dealt directly with Anne van Oorschot, one of the owners, and she gave us exactly what we asked for, an off the beaten path tour that was tailored for us. They really get to know their guests to create the perfect match. We traveled in May, which is shoulder season, and not everything was open, but Anne even arranged for a museum to be opened just for us! We started in Oslo, has fun dogsledding above the Arctic Circle, spent a couple nights at one of the stops on the Flöm railway, and visited Bergen. Where their expertise really comes into play is in the western Fjords, which was the driving part of the adventure. We had a rental car and every day all I had to do was click on the link in my Dropbox and the directions popped up in the car navigation. So easy! We found our way to local waterfalls and the hikes were designed so that they were doable for my mother. We had one snag with one of our accommodations that was quickly and beautifully resolved by Anne (and wasn’t the fault of Norway Adventures). We even got to meet Anne’s new puppy and lambs that had been born just a couple of days before. We really felt like we saw the true Norway and had cultural experiences that created true connections with local people. I don’t usually use a travel agent, but working with Anne was really more like working with a friend who was giving you insider tips about her home. If you are planning a trip to Norway, you really can’t go wrong with Norway Adventures.

Norway Adventures the Best Personalized Tour Company for Adventurous Travelers

We were so very fortunate to find Norway-Adventures.com in which they arranged our entire 2 ½ week travels in Norway. My husband and I cannot say enough about Norway-Adventures.com and how Anne and her husband planned the perfect vacation for us.

My husband and I are 70-year-old avid hikers and travelers both in US and in Europe. We only do very small group tours or find local tour companies to arrange personalized travel itineraries for just the 2 of us. They have lived in Norway for 15 years and their entire focus of their tour company is to create a very personalized vacation. We wanted a combination of unique adventures and cultural experiences, and Anne completely achieved all we had hoped for.

With all the travel companies we have dealt with in the past, we have never had a travel company like Norway-Adventures that was so complete with their level of instructions, organization, identifications of unique accommodations, supply of highly professional hiking, biking, kayaking and cultural guides. Three weeks before we left on our trip, we received our Dropbox of information that was so detailed. Everything we needed was in an extensive list of files that gave us everything we would need: GPS for driving directions, times we needed to be at the ferry, names and phones number of each of the Inns, and suggestions for restaurants, hikes and things to do were all listed with links to each of these resources. The Dropbox was the perfect tour resource that we relied on daily.

But when plans had changed due to several days of rainy weather, Anne was always available to make the necessary adjustments in our tour the day before. They say you don’t come to Norway for the weather and Anne was ready to make the changes that would not work with our rainy days.

Our goal for Norway was to be away from the heavy travel destinations that tourists travel there in the summer. With that in mind, Anne planned our trip in the Westfjords. Providing us with all the hidden gems of central Norway where the fjords enter deep from vertical cliffs, the archipelagos separate the Norwegian from the North Seas and the forests are verdant. Vast numbers of waterfalls spill down the cliffs of numerous fjord inlets. The scenery was magnificent everywhere Anne focused our tour.

The icing on the cake is the accommodations Anne chose for us. Anne is highly connected in the Westfords to the owners of historical inns who have been in the family for generations. It was so special to meet the families at each of these very special Inns and hotels where you get to meet and get to know the entire family who work there. The food at each of these inns are also family-run and incredibly fresh and delicious breakfasts and dinners that are included with your stay. With Anne’s connections, we were always surprised to find we received the best rooms in the inns and hotels.

Our hiking guides were incredibly knowledgeable, professional and so helpful in locations where I personally needed an extra hand to climb. We were so pleased with the selection of hikes that Anne organized for us. We are strong hikers, and she found just the perfect hikes to meet our adventurous expectations. The guides even brought tea and coffee and a snack when we got to the top of each mountain. What a wonderful and thoughtful treat.

Luxury Adventure Tour With My Family

I can honestly say that Norway Adventures is right up there with the best. The planning was meticulous, communication was excellent, and Anne and Anouk were extremely patient with the many many questions and queries I had in the planning stage.

We are a well travelled family, and have experience with firms like this all over the world. In terms of the trip itself, everything was seamless, nothing was overlooked, each day was exactly as they said it would be, and the planning was so precise that it allowed us to take advantage of every single day of the holiday.

We had an absolutely fantastic time in Norway. One of the most beautiful countries we have visited without doubt, and I know that we wouldnt have had the same experience without Norway Adventures. They took so much of the stress out of the planning and made sure we had exactly the kind of holiday experience we wanted. Highly recommended!

Once in a life time experience that no regular tour operator could equal!

Three years ago we spent two weeks on the fjords and coast of Norway with our son and his wife. They put the time and effort into designing a wonderful trip. We were so impressed and had such a wonderful time that we could not resist coming back.

Once again, Anne really spent the time to hone in on our interests and needs in a way we had never experienced before, except with Norway Adventures. Anne put together a fantastic, engaging customized tour off the beaten track through central Norway and down the west coast, traveling by train, private driver and boat. We encountered places and people we never would have found ourselves, who gave us insights into their Norway, its deep past and currently. The local guides were incredibly generous with their time, sharing their personal experiences and perspectives. The detailed daily itineraries (sometimes timed to the minute to ensure making ferry connections 😊) made our independent travel easy to negotiate without any hitches. At every step of the way, the trip went smoothly, way beyond our expectations. We have recommended Anne to many of our friends, who have been equally pleased, and look forward to another trip to Norway designed by Norway Adventures! Steve and Carol

Amazing active family vacation thanks to Norway Adventures!

We had an amazing 11-day customized active trip to Norway planned for our family of four. They met with us beforehand, really listened to what we wanted, and put together a trip that included places we never would’ve found on our own.

The daily guide they gave us made everything super easy, with great suggestions for things to do in each spot. It was such a fun and stress-free way to explore Norway. We’ll definitely use Norway Adventures again for future trips!
