Fjord snowshoe tour highlights
During the snowshoe week in the Fjords of Norway, with a luxurious cabin with shared double/twin rooms and a shared bathroom as your basecamp, you go on varied guided snowshoe tours in the area. Every day we decide where the best conditions for a successful hike are. You don’t need any prior experience for this snowshoe adventure. For example we hike on an island at the coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a mountain surrounded by fjords, stroll into higher alpine terrain and through spectacular valleys with rivers, forests and magnificent views. If you want to relax with a good cappuccino in a coffee bar in a nearby town that is also possible. Expect a varied and spectacular nature experience that is unparalleled.
Information
Skill level & price options
The nice thing with snowshoeing is that you do not need any experience, and you will still be able to access areas with lots of snow. A medium fitness level for enjoying the hike uphill is an advantage, we can adjust the level to the
group’s wishes.
Our cook can prepare all your meals in your cabin (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Ask for the catered option.

Day to Day
Snowshoe tour itinerary
Day 1
When you arrive at Vigra airport in Ålesund, you’ll take the bus or rent a car. Get ready for your winter fjord experience! Including two ferry crossings, it is roughly a three hour drive to your luxury lodge. You will meet the guide at the lodge and have the rest of the day to settle into your home for the next week.
Day 2
For habituation and material control, we do a small tour in the morning. We also practice with the avalanche transceiver, shovel, and avalanche probe. We have lunch in a Norwegian shelter hut, where we can light a fire. After lunch we go on a snowshoe hike in the Hjelmelandsvalley.
Elevation: 250m up & down
Day 3
We need to take the ferry to cross the Nordfjord to get to the starting point of today’s tour. From Davik we hike a tour around the Troda (980m). The first half of the hike is through the woods. The second half above the tree line, with an amazing view over the fjord and the surrounding mountains. On the way back we hike through the woods, cross a small river and take a different route back to our starting point.
Elevation: 600m up & down
Day 4
In the morning we drive to the Norangsvalley for today’s snowshoe trek. The Norangsvalley has steep walls and high mountains. We start our tour in Øye and hike our way up to Leknesnakken (593 m). During the trip we have fantastic views over the spectacular Hjørundfjord.
Elevation: 550m up & down
Day 5
Today we start our snowshoe hike from our cabin and soon we will reach the tree line to experience some stunning views. We hike through the valley to the pass. For the diehards, the Ljøsuregga (1205 m) is waiting for you. Enjoy the magnificent 360° panorama view. We can choose to make a round trip through Kjendalen or to return via the same route.
Elevation 600m up & 800m down
Day 6
After a ferry trip on the fjord, we drive to the island of Bremanger. We stop at a white sand beach; white because of the colour of the sand, not the snow. Here we start the journey and hike up along a sea cliff. Today we might not need our snowshoes. Along our journey to the Veten (498m) we get a magnificent view of hundreds of islands and the ocean. Because of the Gulf Stream, the climate in Bremanger is temperate and also in the Norwegian winter it can a few degrees above zero.
Elevation: 500m up & down
Day 7
We drive to Nordfjordeid where we begin the last trek of our snowshoe week. The aim is to get to the ridge so we see the fjord from both sides of the mountain and also get magnificent views of the peaks surrounding the Ålfoten glacier. From the pass we can hike to the Trollenyken (898m).
Elevation: 400m up & 600m down
Day 8
After breakfast, start on the trip back to the airport in Alesund. The route is well worth it, thanks to the boat crossing over the fjord.
